I LOVE Katie! I was referred to her and checked out her website and blog and knew her style was exactly what I wanted for my wedding. Her photos are romantic, soft, alive, and the lighting is always perfect. I wanted to incorporate sparklers at my wedding and was nervous about how those pics would turn out, but Katie reassured me that they will be great (and they were!).
Aside from Katie being talented, professional, prompt, and incredibly SWEET!, she was extremely accommodating and easy to work with. One example is that there were a few specific areas at my venue where I wanted photographs taken, and Katie was very happy to get me the pictures that I wanted. Aside from those pictures, she chose great backdrops and lighting for all of my pics (family photos, getting ready, bride and groom pics, etc.). Some wedding pics that I’ve seen pics are taken in front of something boring or strange, maybe because the photographer didn’t have a chance to scope out a venue, but I was thrilled with the backdrops that Katie chose. I hadn’t even remembered to think about that on my wedding day, I only remembered once Katie sent me my wedding pics!
Everyone who has seen my wedding pics love them and that’s really all because of Katie and her expertise. She would suggest what to do and where to stand, including climbing a huge rock in my wedding dress if we were up for it (SO worth it!), and we would listen because I trusted her 100%. On top of that, the 2nd shooter that Katie brought with her, Wade, was fantastic as well. I was just so happy that such a great duo was there to capture our special day. Anyone who works with Katie will be so lucky to have her photographing their wedding. Now that my wedding has happened, I keep trying to think of more excuses to work with Katie…haha. Until then, I will keep recommending her to everyone I know! Thank you, Katie!!!
I remember when our paths first crossed. You were a driven and passionate student and I was new in California. I remember thinking how gifted you were as a therapist. It was clear by interactions with your patients that you made people feel heard, loved, and understood. I also remember one of our first conversations, which was about Duncan! If you were an emoji, you would have had big ol’ hearts in your eyes.. I remember thinking “wow, this is how a wife is supposed to talk about her husband.” I had an immediate respect for you and how you carried yourself. And an immediate respect for your priorities in life.
Okay, fast forward to the beginning of your photography career. Ah! Those first few photos were EPIC. I remember showing Geoff and he was shocked when I told him you didn’t go to school for photography. Anyone can learn how to shoot a camera but having that eye for natural light and angles that make people look their best, not to mention that ability to make people feel comfortable so they look natural – those are things that cannot be taught. You, my friend, are gifted.
When Geoff and I got engaged, we knew our wedding budget wasn’t going to be huge. So, we discussed and choose one thing that was going to be most important for us on our special day, the one thing we would splurge on. Well, with our own love for photos, that obviously was going to be our photographer. I’m not going to lie; I did A LOT of research on wedding photographers all over California. I knew I wanted you to shoot our wedding but we weren’t sure we were going to be able to afford you! I literally sat with my mother-in-law for hours one day showing her website after website of photographers, convincing her that the money would be SO WORTH IT. SO, there you have it, we got you! And, it goes without saying how happy we all are; our family was in tears when we showed them our wedding photos. More than worth ever penny.
Before I move on, I want to talk about how I felt this whole wedding planning process… You were one of the few people I felt I could turn to in California for just about anything. Most of my besties live in NYC, Chicago, San Francisco or Kansas City, and my mom lives in Colorado, so I didn’t have a whole slew of bridesmaids, sisters, or people to help me. I can’t express how much it meant to me that you were so accessible and willing to talk through different aspects of a wedding with me. Being able to turn to you for advice is something I will be eternally grateful for – makes me think back to the CLU days and how you carried yourself with you clients! Your kindness and genuine care literally kept me sane and is a big reason everything turned out so incredible in the end.
I love that we were able to collaborate on so many ideas for our engagement shoot and our wedding. You made us feel like were the most important people you have ever worked with and THAT MEANT THE WORLD TO US!
Going up to Pine with you and Duncan and baby S in your tummy was so fun.. seeing your little fam interact and the love you and Duncan share, it is so inspiring. Honestly, I don’t think photos would turn out well for a photographer that doesn’t know love like you do.
Okay back to the engagement shoot! I wish I knew a thousand ways to say, “THESE PHOTOS ARE INCREDIBLE!” We seriously want to frame and blow up every single shot you’ve taken of us. Can I also just mention how much it meant to us that you all trekked (baby Scarlett included) to a place that is so dear to our hearts for Geoff and I? It was cold, we were at altitude, you hiked and climbed on boulders… 5 months pregnant… I mean, I just don’t think a lot of people do stuff like that!?
Fast forward to the month before our wedding…. the whole Shuler family heading down to the ‘Nard for a walk-through. Then, being so helpful after my makeup trial went awry and trying to find someone for me the week before our wedding. All the enthusiastic text messages the days before and again, being able discuss/collaborate on anything – I AM SO GRATEFUL TO YOU!
Our big day was an absolute dream. Things could not have possibly gone any better. And I couldn’t imagine having any one else shoot us — you are so fun to be around and my whole family fell in love with you. I loved how you navigated all the family and bridal party shots. You were calm and directive (family dynamics are not easy) and NAILED every shot. It was pretty amazing to not have one shred of worry about our photos. We had every confidence in you, which helped us just relax and enjoy the day to the fullest. I have heard a lot of brides say they don’t remember their wedding day because it goes by so fast, their stressed or for whatever reason. I remember every detail of our day and I think that is because I was so at ease about everything and everyone around us. It all worked out just as it was supposed to and, I mean, what more could you ask for on your wedding day?
You are amazing. Your raw passion and love for people is so evident in your work. We are so grateful for you, for your family, for your path and that our paths crossed. The memories that you have captured for us, we will cherish forever. It has been an honor to work with you and we will be thanking you endlessly for all the moments you have imprinted in time for us!
Katie is an incredible photographer, and one whom I’ve already recommended to all my friends. She has amazing talent, and is a genius with working with natural light. Katie did a stunning engagement shoot with my fiance and I, and Katie made us feel completely comfortable and at ease. We are both uncomfortable in front of the camera, but she made the whole shoot so fun and light, it wasn’t awkward at all. When we asked for particular types of pictures/styles she not only accommodated these requests, she ensured we achieved them. The pictures turned out better than we could have ever hope for!
Her turn around time was quick, and she provided photos on an online gallery that was easy to access and to download all pictures. She provided a large number of pictures, approx 50 per hour of shooting. Some photographers seem to rely heavily on PhotoShop or other post-processing programs to make great pictures, but during the shoot she showed us the pictures straight off her camera and they were stunning. Her editing was light and not overly heavy, leading to natural and beautiful photos after processing.
If I could give Katie, 10 ++++++++++++++ stars, I would.
My husband and I recently got married, March 30th, 2013 and met our talented photographer through mutual friends only a year before. Over a dinner party, Katie showed me her portfolio of portraits she’d taken of family and friends and I just, FELL IN LOVE! Her style was exactly what I envisioned for an outdoor rustic style engagement & wedding. The day of the engagement shoot, she made us feel so comfortable and calm with her sweet & funny sense of humor. Since my husband doesn’t have a lot of patience (most men don’t) she was quick yet thorough and professional -the entire shoot only took 35-45 minutes. That same evening, we received a few sneak peeks and were BLOWN away by her talent! We knew then, our wedding photos were going to be STUNNING.
On the wedding day, Katie was so FLEXIBLE and relaxing to be around. She made our entire wedding party feel so comfortable. She was not pushy or bossy and knew exactly which shots she wanted to capture. Since the wedding was late in March, her use of natural light made everything all the more BREATHTAKING. We also received sneak peeks within a day and couldn’t believe it. I’ve never received so many compliments from friends, family, and coworkers ever before! All the pictures were captured so elegantly and beautifully that nothing was overdone, just real emotions perfectly captured. The wedding was even featured on my dress designer, Claire Pettibone’s, blog & Style Me Pretty!
Not only is Katie Shuler talented, but her attention to detail transpires in her work. Her love for her husband, family, their animals, and passion for life makes her the PERFECT photographer for paying attention to all of the emotional moments.
Katie took our engagement photos back in April, and I could not recommend her services more. She is such a pleasure, and her professionalism and vision are top notch. We were so pleased with our engagement shoot that we have now hired her to photograph our wedding in July 2014. My fiance and I are not naturally photogenic (in my opinion), but Katie pulled out our fun/playful side with ease and captured it beautifully for us! The best part about working with Katie was that she provided us with teaser-shots before packaging our session for us. We enjoyed getting the amazing ‘teasers,’ which made us feel instant gratification after our time with Katie. She is so passionate about photography, and it’s no secret when you’re in front of her camera lens!
Our engagement shoot was much anticipated for us. Both of us were completely overjoyed to work with Katie Shuler. We knew there was something absolutely wonderful ahead with her behind the lens. We envisioned something unique with a hint of a garden feel. Katie suggested Knapp’s Castle and it was a no-brainer. The combination of the ruined architecture with the gardens along the outskirts made for the perfect location for us. Katie was an expert behind the camera, and with each photo received, we became more enamored by her eye and style. Going into wedding planning, the photographer was one of my highest priorities, and we are so sure that her vision and talent will enchant us with pictures for a lifetime.
Katie is a magician. The shots she finds are incredible. Moreover, she has incredible patience and professionalism in the face of others’ lack thereof. She knew exactly when she needed to pull me away from the chaos and rolled with every punch with grace. Then, I saw some of the pictures she captured and was absolutely blown away by her artistry. I never could’ve imagined I could look like that! Even my videographers recognized her skill and began simply following her around to grab shots from the angles and scenery that she had discovered.
I cannot recommend her more. She’s truly amazing.
